How Clutch works
Clutch is for spur-of-the-moment plans at spots around Portsmouth. Need something to do on a Wednesday night? Check your feed to see what people are doing at your favorite spots. Join friends and meet new people at the spots you love.
Pick a spot
Every hang happens at a real place — a bar, a café, a park, a gym. Browse real spots around Portsmouth, or search the one you already had in mind.
Post a hang
Say what, where, and when. "Sunset drinks on the deck, Thursday at 7." Make it public so anyone on Clutch can join, or friends-only so just your people see it.
See who's in
See the roster of everyone who plans on going before you commit, and finalize details in the activity group chat before you meet.
Show up
Meet at the spot with people who are there for the same reason. Then do it again next week.
Questions
Is it free?
Yes. Clutch is free to download and use. There's nothing to pay for in the app.
Who is Clutch for?
People in and around Portsmouth who want to get out more — whether that's an easier way to round up the friends you already have, or a way to meet new people who are up for the same thing. If you like getting out and doing things with your friends, or meeting new people with common interests, it's for you.
Why only Portsmouth?
Because an app like this only works when there are enough people in one place. We'd rather Clutch be genuinely useful in one town than half-empty in ten. Portsmouth is home, so it's first. If you want Clutch where you live, tell us: hello@thatsaclutchspot.com.
Is there an age limit?
Yes — Clutch is 18+. You enter your date of birth when you sign up.
How do I get the app?
Clutch is an iPhone app, and early access is open now ahead of the App Store release. Go to thatsaclutchspot.com/get on your iPhone and follow the three steps — you install it through TestFlight, Apple's own app for early releases. No Android yet.
Do I have to post my own plans, or can I just join?
Either. Plenty of people only ever join. If you see something you like, tap "I'm going" and show up. Posting your own is for when you've got a plan and want company — it takes about thirty seconds.
Who can see what I post?
That's your call, every time you post. A public hang is visible to everyone on Clutch. A friends-only hang is visible just to the people you've added as friends in the app. Your profile shows your first name and last initial, age, photo, and whatever you choose to put in your bio.
Am I showing up blind?
No. Before you join anything you can see who's hosting it and who else has said they're going. Every hang is at a public spot — a bar, a café, a park — not someone's house. And if anyone makes you uncomfortable, you can block them and report it from inside the app; we review every report.
Clutch also has a verification feature — verified profiles show a checkmark. It's a useful signal, not a guarantee: verification doesn't confirm anyone's identity, background, character, or safety. Treat Clutch the way you'd treat meeting anyone new — public place, tell a friend where you're going, trust your gut.
What if I said I'm going and can't make it?
Leave the hang in the app so the host knows, and drop a line in the chat if you can. People plan around who's going — the count is only useful if it's honest. Bailing quietly is the one thing that makes Clutch worse for everyone.
Can I suggest a spot?
Yes — there's a suggest-a-spot option in the app, or email hello@thatsaclutchspot.com. If it's a real place in the Portsmouth area where people could actually meet up, we'll add it.
I own or run a venue. How do we work together?
People on Clutch are likely already making plans at your spot, and we'd like more of them to. Email hello@thatsaclutchspot.com or DM us on Instagram at @clutch_localhangs.
How do I delete my account?
From Settings inside the app. Your profile and content are removed from the app; our Privacy Policy covers exactly what happens to your data.
